Techie Blogg: Geek factor 5/10

What am I counting down to? the PDC of course and now you want to know what that is don’t you!!.  Well it’s the Professional Developers Conference over in sunny LA.  It’s a Microsoft technologies event where they get the opportunity to show off their future visions and I’m not talking just next year. 

I will find out what the roadmap currently is for the next few years and how much of my life I need to waste trying to keep up with technology and how many sleepless nights I’ll have worrying about missing some key ideas and how much computer hardware I’m going have to buy to keep up with it all and how easy they are going to make development that you can give a monkey a tablet PC and say “get on with it”.  Perhaps I shouldn’t go it’s gonna frighten me.

On the subject of tablets, while I’m over there I’m going to be test driving my bosses old tablet PC and I’m looking forward to that too as I’ve not really played with one yet…anyone got a banana?  I better look after it though as he will be there too. 

Seriously though this is a dream come true for me as I’ll get to see all of the names I’ve become familiar with from years of book reading and more recently reading blogs.

followed by Jim Allchin who is the vice president for platforms.   The various tracks is where the meat is with the affectionately titled Rock Stars such as Don Box, Anders Hejlsberg…the list goes on but it won’t mean much if you are not a developer.

Am I gonna blog while I’m out there?  You betcha as long as I have the tablet and the internet connection I’ll try to frequently post my brain dumps, that’s if I have any cells left.

I’ve got a couple of dilemma’s at the moment.

the first is should I put up a link to a poem I wrote…… yes that’s right a poem.  Have I gone all creative my luvvies?  Well no actually I was actually on the scrounge.  Channel 9 http://channel9.msdn.com/ were running a competition to blog your way to the PDC and as I have no valuable contribution to make to the community I thought I could blag my way there with a poem but it was not to be.  So I could let it fade out into the ether or put a link to it here for posterity so what the hell…… http://www.beardie.co.uk/pdc.htm.

Secondly I’ve just stumbled on the PDC Bloggers site.  People blogging about the PDC.  Well I am going and I do blog, albeit for my own benefit, but what have I got to loose I could submit my own ramblings.. Well things are hotting Up!! I’ve just noticed a Bill gates interview up on channel 9 so I’m gonna sign off and watch that.
