    God I hate Sky TV

Ok, so I caved in and got Sky+.  I've had it for a while as we decided we either drop sky altogether or go with Sky+ that means we can watch what we want to watch when we want to watch it, and of course it goes without saying skip the adverts.  Yes I know I'm killing the TV's funding but hey. there's too many channels anyhow.
So as I have to pay extra for Sky+ or subscribe to premium channels I tend to subscribe to movies in the summer and sport in the winter so I can watch the football.  Well just before I switched back to sports this time I recorded 3 movies to watch at a later date.  That later date has now arived and when I just tried to watch them it said I needed to upgrade my subscription.   Hang on a minute I recorded these while I had a subscription does that mean now I cannot watch them because I no longer have a movie subscription.
Needless to say Sky are not my favourite buddies again at the moment and it swings again towards knocking it all on the head and renting movies and watching TV programs downloaded from the internet and burn't to DivX format, I've already watched all of lost like this thanks to my buddy.  Add to this on Saturday Liverpool were on Sky,  great you may think, but No it was on Prem Plus another extra that you have to pay more for.  My 12 months are up soon so I think it's time to review our viewing options and I know what won't be top of the list.

your experience rings a bell with me

first up we opted for the full monty: sky phone, broadband + tv. sky managed to mess up the connection process so that we were paying for the tv but not able to watch it. when we phoned to complain they decided to close our account.

we then had to find someone at sky who could "re-activate" our account. this was so difficult i can only imagine rupert murdoch himself is the only guy there empowered to flick that particular switch. it took literally hours on the phone + 2 letters to get re-connected

then you get connected and what do you know? not only are you paying a subscription, you're watching advertising too! i like movies but find the ad breaks totally intrusive and ruin my enjoyment of the film

and of course all the really good stuff - new release movies and top sport - is on premium channels so you have to pay again

even the program guide is crap - why can't they include some info about the programs in the guide, like they do in spain?

i'm really disappointed with it, sky feels like a complete rip off and makes me feel like a mug for taking it

you might say i have to upgrade to sky+ but it's just another hassle to me, i don't want to have to deal with these people any more

I am a TV Engineer for an independent retailer (I mean we actually care about the customers unlike Currys or Comet). I usually do call outs to peoples houses and have to deal with sky on a regular basis. As engineers you would think we would be given a seperate number than the customer but we have to use the same customer services as customers and the service couldnt be worse. sky services have a very large call centre in India or Pakistan (Where the line qualitys very poor and the people on the other end are hard to understand and dont understand you) and a small one scotland who treat you alot better and actually try to help you. Their have been times where we have had to ring 3 or 4 times to get help (usually pairing cards up to loan boxes while the customers box is in our workshop being repaired) sometimes they demand to speak to the customer and once there bad treatment had a lady in tears. The company is also out for every penny you have charging ridiculas prices for the packages and extra for silly options that should be free (HD is an extra £10 a month on top of the £300 to £400 for the box and Sky+ used to be the same).
I would therefore advise anyone thinking of getting sky to think again an hopefully the company will go bust with all the new ways of getting extra channels arising.

I HATE SKY TV - who the hell do they think they are?????????

I have to turn my sky box on & off from the mains at least 5 times a day & this has been happening for over 2 months. I have made numerous calls to sky (which I am paying for) & no one has resolved the issue. I called the customer service team today 10 times as I wanted to log a complaint the call was diverted to India - it was a bad line & I asked to be put through to a manager; the point balnk refused to do this? I then asked if I could speak to someone from the UK & was told that they did not have the facility to transfer the call & I would have to callback; hence the reason for calling 10 times!!!!

I eventually spoke to someone in Scotland & I have never experienced such BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE from any company let alone one as large as sky. The customer service advisor laughed when I was explaining the reason for my call therefore I asked to speak to a manager. I was then put through to a "team-leader" - what a joke.

The team leader advised me that I would need an engineer & as I was out of warranty I would have to pay £75.00. I think sky are con artists & as they have the monopoly within their marketplace they can do what they like. I find it funny that the problems with my viewing only started after I did not take up the extended warranty.

I think sky should be ashamed of themselves as they take money off people & fail to provide a comprehensive service, they then charge customers to call them & then they want £75.00 from customers to help the customer what a load of crap.....

I will be switching my service tomorrow & advised everyone else to as well

get a dvd recorder the Sky + box has a CPRM built in simular to Macrovision so when you change
your subscription package the box recognises this thus not allowing you to watch movies you recorded previously
with a dvd / VHS recorder connected to your Sky + Box via a scart lead you can record your Movies to a DVD and watch them at a later date Or you can buy a PVR with a scart imput on the back you can even get PVR's with a USB output on the back then you can transfer your Sky recordings to your PC

    hope this helps

Sky customer service is the worst I have ever experienced. You pay a damn fortune every month for a lousy service. I personally have called Sky 7 times in the last month about a faulty Sky HD box and now, when it has stopped working altogether they inform me that they can send someone out in 2 weeks!! So there bad service just became no service because I won't have any TV for 2 weeks! I also hate call centres where ignorant staff can be as rude as they like to you because they are faceless!

    Hi,
Sky TV sponsored, paid for, produced and telecast an illegal street race in Mumbai called 'Road Raja'. It is appalling that such a huge media house should decide to put 5 UK celebrities in a dangerous and reckless race on the streets of a third world country, endangering hundreds of lives, when it wouldn't have the guts to do so in its own countries of operations and
domicile. To find out more about this, please visit a detailed write-up at

While I appreciate yours might not be the best forum for this  call for an apology, I believe that as consumers of a corporation as large as BSkyB, we have the right to demand more responsibility and stronger ethics when they
spend the money we pay in subscription fees. The email address for BSkyB's Corporate Responsibility unit is also available at the above link. Please write to them directly demanding an explanation for this outrage.
If you are not interested in this cause, sorry to have taken up a few
    minutes of your time.
    Thank you
    Best,
